Nirbhaya Case: Curative Plea of Convict Pawan Dismissed

Nirbhaya case: The four accused in the Nirbhaya case, Vinay Sharma, Pawan Gupta, Mukesh Singh and Akshay Kumar Singh, are to be hanged at 5.30 am on Friday, 20 March. Earlier on Wednesday, the Supreme Court dismissed Pawan Gupta’s plea in which he had declared himself as a minor.

Nirbhaya’s mother Asha Devi then said that her daughter would get justice on Friday. He also said that the court has given so many opportunities to the convicts that they have become used to taking advantage of the law. Now the court has also realized this.

Pawan Gupta’s petition was dismissed on 31 January

On January 20, the Supreme Court rejected his claim to be a minor. The court subsequently dismissed his review petition on 31 January.

Later on Tuesday, Pawan Gupta’s lawyer AP Singh confirmed the filing of a curative petition on his behalf. On 20 January, dismissing Pawan’s plea, the Supreme Court had said that there was no basis for interfering in the case of Delhi High Court dismissing similar cases.

Death warrant was issued on 5 March

Advocates of the convicts are taking advantage of the weaknesses of the law and are able to avoid repeated executions. The death warrant was last issued by the Patiala House Court in Delhi on 5 March.

Nirbhaya’s mother and the lawyers fighting the case for her hope that this will be the last hearing and the culprits will be hanged together on March 20.

Dummy test conducted in Tihar jail

Meanwhile, a dummy test of hanging the culprits was hanged in Tihar Jail on Wednesday night. For this, the executioner was called from Meerut three days in advance.
