The Thalangama Police arrested nine illegal brokers who were deceiving people at the Immigration and Emigration Department yesterday (19).
The arrests were made in accordance with an order by Public Security Minister Tiran Alas to strictly enforce the law against the fraudulent elements. The arrests were made with the help of the intelligence officers who had been deployed to trap the fraudsters. Complaints received that the brokers were providing passports without people having to stand in the queues not following the proper system for an amount of Rs. 25,000.
The Ministry of Public Security states that these operations will continue and other accomplices of the fraudsters will also be apprehended.
Thalangama Police stated that they will produce the arrested nine illegal brokers before the Kaduwela Magistrate’s Court.
