@ Tokorozawa, Japan
April 2024
One of the many fine exhibits at the Tokorozawa Aviation Museum is this replica Nieuport 81. Forty Nieuport built aircraft were imported from France in 1919 and used for pilot training here at the Tokorozawa airfield, now the site of the museum. The Nieuport 81 E.2 was a training variant of the Nieuport 12, with the E.2 variant only having flight controls in the rear cockpit. Another 57 of the type would also be built under license in Japan and known as the Mitsubishi Army Type 1 Trainer. This replica was built in California by Dawn Patrol Aviation.
