Neyara and Archana Win Mixed Doubles Title

Neyara Weerawansa and Archana Lokuge produced a stunning performance to clinch the Mixed Doubles title at the 107th Colombo Open Tennis Championships, which continued at the SLTA Courts in Green Path yesterday.

The fourth seed combination rallied around magnificently and went on to beat the third seed pair of Dhilvan Herath and Hasali Gajaba 4-6, 7-6, 10-8 in an exciting final encounter.

Meanwhile, Methwan Wijemanne continued with his excellent form and went on to complete a grand double by winning the Boys’ Under-16 Doubles with partner Lisal Goonetilleke.

The Royal-Thomian combination lived up to expectations as the top seeds as they beat the fourth seeds Sandaru Guruge and Kajan Udayachandran 4-1, 2-4, 10-5 in a thrilling final encounter.

The Girls’ Under-16 Doubles title went to the Newstead College pair of Oneli Samarawickrama and Hesara Nisindee as they beat the combination of Yasintha Warnakulasuriya and Shashinka Chandrasiri 4-1, 1-4, 10-5 in the final game.

Top seeds Gehansa Methnadi (Musaeus College) and Githmi Fernando (Ave Maria Convent, Negombo won the Girls’ Under-14 Doubles title when they beat Yuhansa Peiris and Movindi Fernando 4-1, 4-0 in the final match.

Other results:

(Boys’ Under-14 Doubles final): Methika Wickramasinghe and Aahil Kaleel beat Jamal Sabry and Louis Knese 4-1, 4-0.

(Boys’ Under-18 final): Apna Perera beat Thilina Dissanayake 6-1, 6-0.
