Donald Trump continues to have most people disapproving of the job he is doing -- as has been true since he was sworn in last January. The Quinnipiac poll shows him with a 22 point negative net approval rating, and the YouGov poll has it at 10 points. The public simply doesn't like what Trump is trying to do to the country.
Both polls also show that the public still doesn't think Trump has the qualifications necessary to be president. Especially disconcerting (to Trump) is that most people don't think he is honest and trustworthy -- 33% to 61% in the Quinnipiac poll, and 32% to 51% in the YouGov poll.
I continue to believe this is a presidential administration that's in trouble.
The Quinnipiac University Poll was done between May 4th and 9th of a random national sample of 1,078 voters, with a 3 point margin of error.
The Economist / YouGov Poll was done between May 6th and 9th of a random national sample of 1,500 adults (including 1,287 registered voters), with a margin of error of 3.1 points.
The Quinnipiac poll also asked respondents to name the first word that comes to mind when they think of Donald Trump. The list below shows the answers that got double-digit responses. The negative words are in red (and the number of responses saying that are in parentheses).
