This is a difficult issue to discuss without hard information. Does the swan destroy native species? And if we find that swans indeed overcome and replace locals, is it worth wasting local ecosystems so that a human-favored species can expand? Is human desire for superficial esthetics the deciding factor in determining how many species survive? Of course, for much of our history this has been true. But now we know better–don’t we?
