New Vertical Abstract Painting on Paper

By Abstractartbylt @artbylt

Continuing to work with watercolor blocks, I painted this one in a vertical format, using similar colors to the horizontal painting I made previously.  I wanted to get a cascading effect with the darker reds in the center, moving outwards with orange, pale peach, and a touch of yellow.

I painted the background in parchment with white highlights, but added spots of other colors for interest. Cobalt green and aqua added contrast to the reds.  I worked fast while the paint was still wet, patting the colors with a brush to blend them slightly, going back and forth from dark to light, light to dark, until I was satisfied.
