New Twitter Features Along With New Twitter Camera

The New Twitter Features Are Here!

Have you noticed the new Twitter features recently? Yes, Twitter has been changing the way it looks on your phone and more so on your desktop. You may have seen this welcome message below when you login to your Twitter account. Of course the changes seem confusing at first, as everything seems to be on the opposite side of what it was. 🙁

Now, there are less columns on the home page with these new Twitter features. First there is a home button. Then, a hashtag symbol for trends, notifications and lastly, a messages button. That's it! Trends seem to be where Twitter is headed with this new redesign.

In the event that you don't like the new Twitter features you can switch back to the legacy mode on your account info and settings area. (But, can you go back to the new version afterwards is the question of the day! ) To be sure, see the tweet below for example:

If you get switched to #NewTwitter and you don't like it, you can switch back by clicking the arrow on the top-right of the page, and returning to Legacy Twitter. pic.twitter.com/8p95qhpXse

Yes, Twitter has been changing the way it looks on your phone and on your desktop. #NewTwitter Click To Tweet

If you want to change it back here is the answer to that question thanks to David Muttiah who responded to a tweet.

If you click on the top right corner of the page on your name in the browser version of Twitter. You will see a drop-down menu, at the bottom of the menu you will see a switch to legacy option.

Why The New Features on Twitter?

According to Tech Crunch, "The move highlights how Twitter continues to chip away at ongoing criticism that it is too confusing for most people to use, which has impacted overall growth for the social media platform."

For this reason I still give Twitter classes and sell ebooks on how to tweet. So many people today still do not know how to use Twitter but many quit before they really get started too.

Customizing The Twitter Feed

The Twitter feed may be changed and customized with getting started as seen in the above image. Also, there are more choices too in the account settings area.

What's Next? Likes and Account Switching

It may be harder to like tweets on mobile today with the new updates but with a swipe to the left it can be done!
Twitter is considering doing away with the like button in the future. ♥ Twitter feels that likes do not add to engagements on their social network.

Furthermore, another feature coming soon is the ability to switch Twitter accounts easily. Instead of logging out and back in on desktop. Similarly, this feature already can be done on mobile devices.

We accidentally released our Android Experiments Program app to the public yesterday. It wasn't quite ready for prime time, and some people have been experiencing app crashes. Sorry about that!

We've released a fix. Please update your Android app as soon as you can.

Another option available with the Twitter mobile app is the "data saver" button to save data on mobile devices. Hence, a great way to save on data plans!

Missing Tweet Counts 🙁

Yet, with the new version you cannot see how many tweets someone has tweeted. How will it be known how active a peep is on Twitter with the new version?

Now you can see below how the old Twitter layout shows the tweet counts on profiles.

Yes, I've tweeted a lot over the 10 years I've been on this social network 🙂 That averages about 15,000 tweets per year. 1,250 tweets per month or an average of 41 tweets per day. Do you know how many tweets you are sending out per day? Learn more here on how many tweets are good for your profile

The New Twitter Camera

Now there is a camera right in the Twitter app on mobile devices. This new feature lets you write text on the image just like with the stories features on Facebook and Instagram.

Therefore, you can see it on the image below but not in the embedded tweet here. These photos on the tweets have to be opened to see the text displayed like a "story". The background color of the text can be changed to make it POP.

If you have your location set on Twitter - it will suggest geo tags for you to use and relevant hashtags on these photos with their camera app.

Going LIVE on Twitter with Camera App

This new app is great to go LIVE on Twitter and include a video up to 2 minutes in length. As a matter of fact when you go LIVE your broadcast goes to the top of your timeline for your followers to see!

With an event, it will put the tweet in with others using that hashtag. The app knows where you are with your geo location and hashtags. I'd love to know in the comments if you have tried this Twitter camera yet!

What Others Have to Say about the New Twitter Features

Dammit - I am SO lost with this #NewTwitter layout.
Coudn't twitter have waited till AFTER the 2020 Election to do this fancy schmance upgrade ? pic.twitter.com/bj5yOVP1Iz

Well this is different. Anyone else seeing a brand new Twitter profile?

Looks like the company has made some pretty big design changes. What do you think? #NewTwitter pic.twitter.com/OQL94YGKMv

OK, I like the #NewTwitter feature that lets you crop/edit pictures you upload. That's cool. For example, this was a larger picture and I cropped it in Twitter. pic.twitter.com/vHpQ4I60PN

Anyone else got the #NewTwitter yet? First impressions are good, it makes much better use of space by putting content into three columns. They also promise "account switching" coming soon, which will save logging out/in to use different accounts (about time!) pic.twitter.com/xy2HxBp1At

- Matt Saunders (@WeAreCharityBox) April 24, 2019

@Twitter why did you get rid of the number of #tweets counter on the #newtwitter profile page? I use that as a way to gauge if the account is legit and if it is worth following. Every time I switch to new twitter, I keep switching back just to see the count. #Twitter pic.twitter.com/SNx0RKoElg
