On Saturday night, a teen gunman fatally shot 2 adults and 3 children in an Albuquerque home. Authorities still do not know if he the teen was related to the victims. A motive has not been disclosed. Investigators are also trying to determine who owned several guns in the home, including a semi-automatic military-style rifle.
Authorities weren’t releasing the name or age of the teenager accused in the attack (I personally don’t think the name should ever be released). He was booked on two counts of murder and three counts of child abuse resulting in death.
I know it hasn’t been confirmed but this teen must be mentally disturbed. You don’t kill 2 adults and 3 children if you aren’t mentally ill.
How many people have to die before we say enough is enough?
How many people have to die before we seriously tackle the serious mental illness epidemic in this country?
*UPDATE (courtesy the Daily Beast):
The New Mexico teen who shot his mother, father, and three siblings Saturday said he had “anger issues” and was “annoyed with” his mother before he went on his killing spree, according to a police statement. The teen had homicidal and suicidal thoughts before he grabbed a rifle from his parents’ closet and shot his mother in her head. His nine-year-old brother was sleeping next to her and got upset, so the teen shot him, too, and then his two sisters who came into the room crying. He then waited in a bathroom for his father to get home and shot him, too.
