The southern subtropical Okinawa Prefecture of Japan is expected to host the opening of a brand new sustainable luxury eco-resort in spring 2021. Designed with the concept of bringing guests closer to nature, Treeful Treehouse will offer secluded private rooms nestled in the jungle canopy next to a common Aerohouse area and activities for visitors to explore the area.
Located in the countryside of Nago on the north side of Okinawa Island, the resort will house four stately individual rooms in the trees on the banks of the Genka River, each accommodating two people. The rooms have been individually designed to blend in perfectly with the natural surroundings, built around the existing flora in the area, while providing a luxurious glamping style setting and modern amenities including air conditioning. The wooden treehouse rooms offer 360-degree views and an outdoor seating area with comfortable hammocks, ideal for stargazing at night. The unusual treehouse bedroom, inspired by the boats and made by a local yacht builder, will offer guests the opportunity to sleep in a truly unique cocoon space in the trees.
The Communal Aerohouse is equipped with bathrooms, rest and relaxation rooms, and a kitchen connected to the treehouses via a series of floating walkways and jungle trails. The resort's floating DNA walkway, modeled after the vertebrae of a spine, connects the ground to the tree terrace, making the resort accessible to wheelchair users.
Once opened, the resort will offer guests a range of excursions and experiences to explore the area, including jungle trekking, kayaking, paddle boarding, and yoga. The resort is also passionate about giving back to the local community and has already embarked on projects in the surrounding area, including the restoration of a watermill at the site of the Shizogumui Waterfall, which was last home to once a mill over 100 years ago. The station is powered only by its own solar energy, thus avoiding the use of fossil fuels.
