New Jersey Beer and Movie Paring Part I

And now for something completely different.. We pair foods to beer so why not a movie?  To kick things off I am starting with a favorite film of mine, that just happens to also take place in NJ.  Like it needed much to make it any cooler than it was: The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai across the Eight Dimension. I promise this will not be a one-off, & and leave you hanging for the followup Buckaroo Banzai Against the World Crime League.

I love the Cheapnis that goes hand in hand with midnight movies and creature features, but when you can take a legitimate 50’s or 60’s B film plot (and not a parody of the theme, not that those are bad either) A la It Conquered the World or Robot Vs The Aztec Mummy, give it a good budget,  a fantastic script, name drop Orson Wells, and Gover’s Mill,  and sign arguably one of the finest ensemble casts in moviedom (Peter Weller, John Lithgow, Christopher Lloyd, Vincent Schiavelli, Jeff Goldblum, Clancy Brown, etc) you get Buckaroo Banzai.

Yes you have the Polymath Buckaroo,  part Bond, part Adam Ant, part Dr Who,  with a volunteer force that would put Project Mayhem to shame, but every actor gave some of, it not the finest performances of their careers.  Could you even think of anyone who could have been cast that would do better? Let Lithgow go completely ape and contrast it with the dry Schiavelli..  Genius

So what beer would you want to pair with it?  tough, tough call,  I am going with Carton’s regular Coffee: an Imperial Cream Ale that drinks like coffee. Smooth, sophisticated, & slightly dangerous, plus if you have more than one, the chances are quite high that you will be able to see Red Lectriods too.
