The Ministry of Railways has recently prepared a proposal to start the facility of online ticket booking for pet dogs and cats. This means that people will no longer have to stand in long queues at parcel booking counters to book tickets for their pet dogs and cats. Ministry of Railways has proposed online booking facility for pets in AC-1 category trains. The proposal also includes giving TTEs the power to book tickets for pets on board. Railway officials have said that after the introduction of online booking facility for animals, TTEs will also be able to book dog-cat tickets.
The animals will be kept in the SLR coach, which is reserved for the guards. Pet owners can provide water, food, etc. to their pets at train stoppages. The ministry hopes that this will make traveling with pets more convenient and comfortable for passengers.
A report in The Statesman states that the Railway Board has asked CRIS (Centre for Railway Information Systems) to make changes in the software so that the facility of online booking of animals on the IRCTC website can be started.
It has been told in the report that along with the online service, after the preparation of the first chart of the train, the railway passengers will be able to book their ticket online on the website of IRCTC from their mobile or computer. This facility will be available only when the ticket of the passenger is confirmed.
These conditions will apply
There are certain conditions for online booking of animal tickets which are listed below.
- The ticket of the passenger should be confirmed. If the passenger cancels the ticket, no refund will be given for the Pet ticket.
- Pet ticket money will also not be refunded in case of train cancellation or delay of more than three hours. Only the passenger’s ticket money will be refunded.
- The official says that large domesticated animals like horse, cow, buffalo etc. are booked and taken in goods trains. They must have a person to look after them during the journey.
