I have lived in New England my entire life.  Well, except for the time I was in college in Florida.  Of course my permanent residence during that time was still in Connecticut and I never spent the entire summer down there and Christmas was always spent at home.  So I am a New England girl through and through.

As much as I would really love to leave my home state many times (if the opportunity to move arose I’d probably jump on it) there really are a lot of things I’d truly miss about life in New England.  I am sure I would find new loves.  I already have things I miss about life in Florida (the Strawberry festival).

And of course high taxes and cost of living sure do make me look into moving out of state a lot.  And come the winter with the frigid temps I’ll be Florida dreaming as I watch my family enjoying the outdoors.  I’ll have to keep reminding myself they have to spend the entire summer indoors for the most part.  So there are pluses and minuses no matter where you live.  This is not to say I don’t think I’ll ever leave my home state because if an opportunity does arise with employment and a place to live I definitely can see us moving.  However, I know it’s going to be so hard to give up this time of year.

The fall is my favorite season.  Partly because my birthday falls during this time of year, but mostly because of the beautiful sights we get to see and the apple picking and pumpkin picking and hay rides and the brisk autumn air.

When I was in college my first year in FL there was just something very wrong after we changed our clocks back about walking out of the school cafeteria at 5 p.m. into the hot Florida air and it being dark.  It felt like summer, but it looked like fall.  And when my freshman college roommate and I went trick or treating that year (because it was just fun pretending to be kids again) there was just something unsettling about sweating in your costume.  Not having to add layers to keep warm.  But the worst part was the leaves on the trees.  Really, the leaves on the ground even, or lack there of.  Trick or treating without the crunch of the leaves under your feet just seems wrong.  It was so wrong in fact that my homesickness grew ten fold around that time and my mom had to send me leaves from home so I could make it through.

This weekend I got a good dose of New England living.  We went apple picking.  I was hoping to capture more of the fall foliage because it’s really starting to take off right now.  In a few weeks when we go pumpkin picking though I don’t think we’ll have any problem really capturing that New England charm and fall foliage.  But none the less, this is what I absolutely adore about New England living.
