New Abstract Floral Painting

By Abstractartbylt @artbylt

After painting four tall canvases (10" x 48") with complex patterns in blues and greens, I began a new series of abstract floral paintings on small canvases.  First I painted a background of light blue and let it dry completely. Then I began to paint large abstracted flowers that filled up almost the entire canvas.  I did two in purple and two in yellows.

I painted with a brush, very loosely, blending colors together.  I added some white and prussian blue for the centers of the purple flowers.  I put orange buds in the center of the yellow flowers, and used a tan and white for highlights.

Then I painted in some leaves and stems in the background with permanent light green. For the final touch, I drew lines with Indian yellow for the yellow flowers and alizarin crimson for the purple ones.  I accented the leaves and vines with lines in emerald green and hookers green.

The goal was to keep everything loose and liquid rather than representational.
