Netflix might soon get a podcast-like audio-only mode

Netflix could soon get a feature for anyone who falls asleep listening to their favorite TV shows and movies. I know I fall asleep watching Netflix documentaries and reality shows almost every other day, just like many do listening to podcasts.

People at XDA developer found evidence of a new audio-only mode in an APK demolition of the Netflix Android app. The code string XDA Version 7.79.1 of the Netflix app clearly references a feature that allows you to turn off the video and just listen to the content. It's like playing YouTube or podcasts in the background.

  • Netflix could soon get an audio-only mode.
  • You may be able to listen to TV shows and movies with no video.
  • The function can be intended for users who want to save on the use of Internet data.

If you have an iPhone, you can already hear Netflix with no video in the background. All you have to do is play the content you want to hear on Netflix, lock your phone's screen, and hit the play button in the Control Center. However, a special audio-only feature on Netflix can also help store data.

Even with the iPhone trick, the app will request the video in the background so you can use as much data as you normally would. A standalone audio-only feature may solve this problem and use only as much data as is necessary to get the audio.

Netflix has not officially announced anything about this supposed audio-only feature. So don't get your hopes up just yet. We'll have to wait and see if the company does it or not.
