Netflix has decided to cancel its animated series “My Dad The Bounty Hunter” after a successful two-season run, despite the show’s high acclaim and perfect rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Created by Everett Downing Jr. and Patrick Harpin, the series premiered on Netflix on February 9, 2023, with its second season following on August 17, 2023.
The series, beloved for its relatable characters and engaging plot, centers around two children who inadvertently join their father on his intergalactic bounty hunting escapades.
The cancellation was quietly confirmed by Everett Downing Jr. in an email to What’s on Netflix, where he expressed gratitude for the opportunity to collaborate with a talented team of artists and partners. Downing Jr. reflected on the joy of seeing his creative vision brought to life and expressed hope for revisiting the series’ universe in the future.
Despite its positive reception and high viewership, with both seasons making it to Netflix’s global top 10 for English language content and Nielsen’s top 10 original streaming series after the first season, the show met its end.
This decision adds “My Dad The Bounty Hunter” to a list of other kid-friendly and family-friendly originals canceled by Netflix, including “Ada Twist, Scientist,” “Ridley Jones,” “Spirit Rangers,” “Oddballs,” “Maya and the Three,” “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe,” and others.
