What are the best post-apocalyptic movies to watch this summer on Netflix? Here are our five tips!

Warner Bros. France Mad Max: Fury Road (2015)
In the post-apocalyptic world of George Miller, the atmosphere is sticky, desert and desolate. Gang wars are raging to grab any resource. It is in this setting that evolves his hero, Mad Max, camped, in the cult cult saga of origin, by Mel Gibson. In 2015, 30 years after the release of the third installment, the Australian director succeeded in a master stroke with Fury Road. Always located in endless expanses of warm sand, this 4th section sees Tom Hardy succeeding the American actor. Further back, he leaves the main role to Furiosa, interpreted by Charlize Theron, pilot of a military vehicle launched at high speed in the desert and chased by an unleashed motorized army. With its frenzied rhythm, its breathtaking stunts performed without special effects and its stunning soundtrack, Mad Max: Fury Road is a thrilling work from which one does not emerge unscathed.
I am a legend (2007)
Adapted from the flagship work of SF literature by Richard Matheson, published in 1954, I am a legend tells the story of Robert Neville, ex-scientist of world reputation, now the last man on Earth after a virus has decimated the rest of humanity. Wandering alone, with his dog, in the streets of a ruined New York, he tries as best he can to survive in the face of the threat of dangerous mutants who prowl in the darkness. In order to concretize his apocalyptic vision of the Big Apple, the director Francis Lawrence used the technique of computer-generated images, erasing from here and there all traces of life: passers-by, cars, planes, reflections in the windows ... and the hundreds of fans and onlookers who came to applaud the hero of the film, Will Smith. The result is stunning, as evidenced by the opening sequence presenting the most famous places in the city completely abandoned and invaded by nature which has taken over. Note that the flashback scene showing the evacuation and explosion of the Brooklyn Bridge is the most expensive scene ever shot in New York: 6 days of shooting for $ 6 million.
Welcome to Zombieland (2009)
Most zombiesque works, from the undead by George Romero to The Walking Dead, tell the beginnings of the invasion in question and the way the heroes approach it. In Bienvenue à Zombieland, the apocalypse has already taken place and the main characters are already well versed in the exercise. Armed with unstoppable survival and defense techniques, two men - Jesse Eisenberg and Woody Harrelson - meet and go a long way together, one to find his parents, the other ... cookies. Unlike the other films on this list, Bienvenue à Zombieland is a comedy where all the scenes involving the creatures are pretexts for a frank moment of fun. In particular the one in which the protagonists meet a movie super-star and which we will be careful not to reveal to you here the smallest detail.
Waterworld (1995)
With its inordinate budget and its outpouring of special effects, accessories and costumes, Waterworld was the film of all challenges. Taking place in the distant future where the planet is covered by the oceans following an ecological disaster, a half-human half-fish mutant (Kevin Costner), a young woman (Jeanne Tripplehorn) and a little girl (Tina Majorino ) set off in search of the only land still emerged. In order to give the impression that the protagonists were at sea, the film crews created an atoll, an artificial island on which the filming constraints were particularly complex. It was particularly necessary to find a system of rotation of the island to always turn towards the sea, a maneuver that required 6 hours and 10 technicians. If there was bad press when it was released, the feature film is nonetheless a spectacular blockbuster.
Bird Box (2018)
In the terrifying world of Bird Box, dangerous creatures have the power to make humans commit suicide with a simple glance. To protect themselves, the survivors are forced to advance blindly. It is in this context that Malorie, a woman determined to save her children, undertakes a long journey on a dangerous river, blindfolded ... Adapted from the eponymous novel by Josh Malerman published in 2014, the film plays skillfully with our meaning, in the same way as Without a noise, released a few months earlier, invoked silence as the only way to survive. Driven by the ambitious vision of director Susanne Bier, who notably relied on sound effects to intensify the heavy atmosphere, Sandra Bullock threw herself body and soul into this role. Role that required upstream work with a visually impaired worker in order to " show how to listen [son] body so that[elle] can feel things without needing to see them "Result: 2 hours of suspense and high tension.
