Nelson Ellis Tells Why He Supports ‘Love A Life’The Hollywood Reporter spoke to True Blood’s Nelsan Ellis who will be performing alongside “The Office’s” Craig Robinson at the March 4 CureConstanceCampaign event, “Love A Life,” about why he is participating in the event.  In the interview, Nelsan tells them about his mother’s sudden death and how it put him into action.

The Hollywood Reporter: What got you into this?
Nelsan Ellis: “My mom passed away from cancer last year. It was painful to watch and to have no assistance from the medical profession, other than morphine. There was nothing they could do. That was probably the most god-awful thing.”

THR: Was this a long process?
Ellis: “My mother was diagnosed on a Tuesday and she died 7 days. This was like a drive-by shooting. And the only thing the doctors could tell us was they were sorry. She was solely on morphine.”

THR: What was the worst part?
Ellis: “Not having hope. That was the most excruciating thing. In my mother’s case, I know it wasn’t her time. She was in a coma and her best friend came to her bed and said ‘Peaches, get up out that bed. We got to go to a party.’ And her eyes opened a bit and she literally tried to lift herself. Somewhere, she heard that.”

THR: What do you want to do?
Ellis: “I’m just going to do whatever I can do – raise money, bring awareness. At this point, I abhor cancer. I hate cancer. I want to do whatever I can to give people hope and a sense that there’s a chance.”

The event that Nelsan is participating in is called “Love A Life” will be held on March 4th from 7-9pm at SoHo House at 9200 Sunset blvd, West Hollywood, CA.  The cost per ticket is $100.  Read more abvout the Cure Constance Campaign below:

Nelson Ellis Tells Why He Supports ‘Love A Life’

The Cure Constance Campaign is an organization originated out of a necessity to find options. Our Mission is to offer financial resources and support to persons with advanced stages of cancer; increasing their independence and allowing them the right to choose their health care protocol.

CureConstanceCampaign was established to help individuals overcome late stage cancers (stage III and IV). We are an organization with a face and a mission to lend support. Originating from a woman’s passion to protect her mother’s life, CureConstanceCampaign is seeking to offer encouragement, financial support and most importantly treatment options for persons with cancer.

There are many research-based organizations that already exist, and these companies are needed for the fight against cancer, However, there are hundreds of millions of people trying to find treatment on a day-to-day basis, and there is little to no financial support for those individuals. The high expenses and costs for treatment is unfathomable, and for those who want choices in care, the options are non-existent.
