Nelsan Ellis (Lafayette Reynolds) has joined the cast of Bolden according to a report from the Hollywood Reporter released earlier this month. The film centers around the jazz musician Buddy Bolden. Grammy winning musician Wynton Marsalis will supply the music in the film.
The film is written and directed by Dan Pritzker, who finished the first round of filming in 2010. Nelsan will play Bartley, the entrepreneur who manages the Bolden Band. This is the second musical biopic Nelsan has appeared in. In the recently released Get on Up, he plays Bobby Byrd in the James Brown centered story.
Filming on the new scenes for Bolden will start this fall with a release date yet to be mentioned.
