The NEAR Foundation, the non-profit responsible for the ecosystem development of the NEAR protocol, has partnered with Alibaba Cloud, the computing and storage arm of the Chinese tech behemoth, to accelerate Web3 growth in Asia and the Middle East, the organization announced on Monday.
The company stated that the partnership grants the NEAR Foundation access to Alibaba Cloud’s developer ecosystem in Asia and the Middle East in an effort to entice more developers to build on the NEAR protocol. Using Alibaba Cloud’s “plug-and-play” infrastructure as a service, developers who wish to establish new NEAR validators will be able to do so.
According to a press release, the NEAR Foundation and Alibaba Cloud will offer remote procedure calls (RPC) as a service to developers and consumers in the NEAR ecosystem. RPC is a type of server that enables users to receive information from blockchains and send transactions to various networks. It will also feature multi-chain indexing to provide developers with a data-query application programming interface (API).
Using Alibaba Cloud’s infrastructure, users will also have access to the NEAR Blockchain Operating System (BOS), a platform introduced this year that enables developers to build into and interact with other users.
On Monday, the price of NEAR increased by 8% to $1.57 following the Alibaba announcement.
Alibaba recently announced the appointment of Joseph Tsai as its new chairman. Tsai is an active Web3 investor and has signed multiple agreements with crypto-related entities.
Raymond Xiao, head of international Web3 solutions at Alibaba Cloud Intelligence, remarked, “The NEAR Foundation and Alibaba Cloud partnership is vital as we continue to encourage Web3 developers to explore new opportunities.”
“It is also significant for developers and validators in Asian markets, as they can leverage Alibaba Cloud’s comprehensive infrastructure in Asia.”
