Choose your favorite basketball move, and the Australian National Basketball League (NBL) will either slam dunk, alley oop, or dribble between the legs into crypto and the metaverse.
Today, the NBL declared a multi-year cooperation and agreement with the NFT/crypto companies BlockTrust, ePlays, and Tracksuit Group. It’s a union with the mission of introducing the NFT to Australian basketball lovers.
According to info shared with Stockhead, the cooperation will permit fans to “engage with the NBL in a new and exciting way, through Discord channels, NFTs [non-fungible tokens], digital collectibles, and more”.
The collaboration will create Chainz, the NBL’s planned “web3 marketplace,” giving fans access to a specialised software that will act as a portal into the NBL metaverse and their own “personal web3 world.”
A “strong community component” and a space for the NBL and its collaborators to airdrop “digital and real-life benefits” are also features of the app in addition to an NFT wallet aspect for purchasing, exchanging, and displaying NBL NFTs.
The Dapper wallet, a doorway to the Flow blockchain, the location of the NBA Top Shot digital collectibles/NFT platform, will also work with NBL collectibles.
‘A whole new legion’ of supporters are being pursued
The Chainz website gives a quick overview of the various perks that are envisioned for fans who participate in the NBL’s metaversal incursion.
This includes opportunities for player interaction in-person or online, admission to exclusive events, and Chainz governance functionality. It also includes “collecting moments and participating in challenges” to win Chainz merchandise and discounts.
Brad Joyner, Chief Commercial Officer of the NBL, thinks that the league’s excursion into the non-fungible realm and the metaverse will assist to attract “a whole new legion of supporters” to the sport.
“We are absolutely thrilled to be stepping into the metaverse with ePlays, BlockTrust and separately the Tracksuit Group,” said Joyner, adding:
“The digital universe space provides NBL fans a new way to engage with the league. As one of the fastest-growing sports in Australia, we are always looking for new and innovative ways to grow our audience.”
