A T-56 weapon in the hands of a Naval rating had fallen into the sea with 30 rounds of ammunition when a group of officers from the Mannar  Naval Base was inspecting an Indian boat in the seas off Thalaimannar.

The T-56 weapon and ammunition had fallen into the sea on April 6. A complaint about this had been made to the Mannar Police on Saturday (8) by a Lieutenant Commander of the Mannar Navy Camp.

The firearm had fallen into the sea while the officers were inspecting an Indian fishing vessel that had breached Sri Lankan maritime borders.

It is stated that an operation had been launched by divers to find the weapon, but due to its failure, a complaint had been made to the police.
