It's funny, but whenever new interior design trends pop up, they never seem to affect the dining room. Take 2023. So far, various interior design trends have included earth tones (browns and pinks), neoclassicism, terrazzo, and navy hues. But whenever they're talked about in context, they only ever seem to affect the kitchen, the lounge, and maybe a few bedrooms. Dining rooms, by and large, feel like the odd room out.
For years, dining rooms have been quite stark and understated, with home designers either going for a luxury or minimalist design, ordinarily with light and silver colors to make the place feel warm and inviting. Anything else could mar the aesthetic and perhaps create a dining room that feels a little more alien. We're here to tell you, however, that this shouldn't be the case.
Take that last trend. Navy hues. Most people would avoid this in their dining room design, mostly because of the danger of creating a more cold and dark space rather than the warm, welcoming and traditional hues of white and silver. But there's no reason why navy cannot work in the dining room. All you have to do is be clever about how you insert it and what you couple with the color in order to keep it tamed.

First off, navy walls. This is potentially the most dangerous of decisions in the dining room, as most homeowners would want white walls to reflect any light they can get from their windows. But navy walls don't have to mean a dark room. If you couple the walls with mirrors, then light can still be reflected, and a few art frames can also instil brighter colors to balance it all out.
The color navy can also be inserted onto the table. Going back to the navy walls, the first thing you'll want are candles or candelabras to create as much light as you can. Rather than going for a regular sterling silver candelabra, there are navy candelabras you can find which can not only match your theme but add a bit of unique luxury to the table, too - visit nadavart.com to look at an example. We recommend that your tablecloth remains white but with a single navy table runner placed in the middle. Once again, this is all about the balancing act, and a white tablecloth and navy table runner will balance the room perfectly.
Lastly, furniture! To finish off the navy blue theme, we would recommend looking for soft, navy furniture to place around the table itself. Along with this, give a fresh, new paint job to any cabinets or drawers, softening the color with gold or silver frames and handles - or whatever matches the silverware on your table. If you do this, then you'll be left with a dining room that actually has a personality. As mentioned before, most people are happy to stay safe in their dining room. But by instilling this navy theme, you can ensure yours does something a little different, but without any sacrifice!
