The Sri Lanka Navy on 20th and 21st December 2023 sprang into action to clear a blockage under the Kanaperiya Bridge which is over Polathu Ganga in Yakkalamulla area of Galle.
Following heavy rains, tree remains and other debris, carried by raging waters of Polathu Ganga, collect under the Kanaperiya Bridge, hampering smooth flow of river water.
Remaining ever alert to these developments, a team of Navy divers attached to the Southern Naval Command were pressed into action to clear the blockage under the Kanaperiya Bridge, ensuring the uninterrupted flow of water downstream. With the timely involvement of the Navy, a potential flood threat in the area was successfully averted.
