This new social media course taught by Wharton Professor Jonah Berger and author of the best-selling book “Contagious: Why Things Catch On” teaches you the key ideas and concepts behind viral marketing and crafting content that inspire people to share it with their friends.

But Snapchat is also about consuming media. The app’s Discover section features interactive content from a range of publishers, including BuzzFeed, Mashable, CNN, People, and Vice. The goal seems to be keeping Snapchat’s users in the app as long as possible — and it’s working.

The end goal of any marketing effort is to generate sales. Although social media is a useful marketing tool, it is often difficult to quantify to what extent it is contributing to profit. ROI can be measured by comparing marketing analytic value to contact database or CRM and connect marketing efforts directly to sales activity.

Kik – Just like internetlovingteen said, it’s rated 17+ for a reason. It’s absolutely not for kids. WhatsApp – Heard of it, but never used it. Group Me – Never heard of it. Instagram – Relatively safe, however, it does have some explicit content. Tumblr – There’s some pornographic content on it, but you can search for certain things you like, so it’s relatively safe if you don’t wander into the explicit sections of it. Twitter – Relatively safe as long as you set it to private. Has some swearing. Musical.ly – Relatively safe, however, some songs have swearing and/or explicit content. YouNow – Never heard of it. Periscope – Heard of it, but never used it. Live.ly – Never heard of it. Burn Note – Never heard of it. Snapchat – A bit difficult to use and can potentially have explicit content. Would not recommend for kids. Whisper – Can potentially have NSFW content and things like suicide, self-harm, and drugs. Not for kids. Also rated 17+ for a reason. Yik Yak – Heard of it, but never used it. MeetMe – Not for kids. Omegle – Not for kids. Tinder – Can have explicit and sexual content. It’s generally used for hook-ups instead of long-term dating relationships. Do not let kids on this app.

Often I don’t see the hook until I have it published for a few days. That’s why I like your idea of letting an article percolate, but I am definitely out of time before that. Sometimes finding the pictures that say what I want is a long time search.

If you’ve never used Periscope before, here’s how it works: download the app to your phone, log in, and start a live video stream with your phone’s camera. Your friends on Periscope and Twitter will be notified to tune in, and viewers can interact with broadcasts by commenting and leaving virtual hearts.

To find out what adjustments need to be made to your social media marketing strategy, you should rely on constant testing. Build testing capabilities into every action you take on social networks. For example, you could:

The 2008 US presidential campaign had a huge presence on social networking sites. Barack Obama, a virtually unknown Democratic candidate, utilized 15 different social media websites to form relationships with the millions of American citizens who utilize those networks. His social networking profile pages were constantly being updated and interacting with followers. By the end of his campaign, Obama had 5 million social media network supporters (2.5 million on Facebook and 115,000 on Twitter). The use of social networking sites in his marketing campaign gave Barack Obama’s campaign access to e-mail addresses, as posted on social network profile This allowed the Democratic Party to launch e-mail campaigns asking for votes and campaign donations.[26]

There’s no denying that Search Engine Optimization, commonly referred to as SEO, is a key skill to learn if you want to increase your small business’s odds of being found online by potential customers.

The open-ended nature of social networks may only add to the confusion. Once signed into a social network, having answered a few basic profile questions, it’s easy to sit back and wonder what you are supposed to do next.

With offline marketing, it’s very difficult to tell how people are interacting with your brand before they have an interaction with a salesperson or make a purchase. With digital marketing, you can identify trends and patterns in people’s behavior before they’ve reached the final stage in their buyer’s journey, meaning you can make more informed decisions about how to attract them to your website right at the top of the marketing funnel.

From your website itself to your online branding assets — digital advertising, email marketing, online brochures, and beyond — there’s a huge spectrum of tactics and assets that fall under the umbrella of digital marketing. And the best digital marketers have a clear picture of how each asset or tactic supports their overarching goals.

Of course, review sites, such as Yelp, also help small businesses to build their reputation beyond just brand visibility. Positive customer peer reviews help to influence new prospects to purchase goods and services more than company advertising.[28]

David Fincher’s The Social Network is the stunning tale of a new breed of cultural insurgent: a punk genius who sparked a revolution and changed the face of human interaction for a generation, and perhaps forever. Shot through with emotional brutality and unexpected humor, this superbly crafted film chronicles the formation of Facebook and the battles over ownership that followed upon the website’s unfathomable success. With a complex, incisive screenplay by Aaron Sorkin and a brilliant cast including Jesse Eisenberg, Andrew Garfield and Justin Timberlake, The Social Network bears witness to the birth of an idea that rewove the fabric of society even as it unraveled the friendship of its creators.

It should also be evident which accounts need to be updated and which need to be deleted altogether. If your audit uncovers fraudulent accounts—a fake branded Twitter profile, for example—report them. Reporting fraudulent accounts will help ensure that people searching for you online only connect with the accounts you manage.

Pinterest describes itself as ‘a visual bookmarking tool that helps you discover and save creative ideas.’ Users can ‘pin’ images to the service and share them in collections, or ‘boards,’ that other users can follow.

Pinterest has become a major player both in social networking and in the search world, proving just how important visual content has become on the web. As the fastest standalone site ever to reach 10 million monthly unique visits, Pinterest’s beautiful and intuitive pinboard-style platform is one of the most enticing and useful resources for collecting the best images that can be categorized into separate boards.

In 2013, the United Kingdom Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) began to advise celebrities and sports stars to make it clear if they had been paid to tweet about a product or service by using the hashtag #spon or #ad within tweets containing endorsements. In July 2013, Wayne Rooney was accused of misleading followers by not including either of these tags in a tweet promoting Nike. The tweet read:”The pitches change. The killer instinct doesn’t. Own the turf, anywhere. @NikeFootball #myground.”[252] The tweet was investigated by the ASA but no charges were pressed. The ASA stated that “We considered the reference to Nike Football was prominent and clearly linked the tweet with the Nike brand.”[252] When asked about whether the number of complaints regarding misleading social advertising had increased, the ASA stated that the number of complaints had risen marginally since 2011 but that complaints were “very low” in the “grand scheme.”[253]

Reputation: This block represents the extent to which users can identify the standing of others, including themselves, in a social media setting. Reputation can have different meanings on social media platforms. In most cases, reputation is a matter of trust, but because information technologies are not yet good at determining such highly qualitative criteria, social media sites rely on ‘mechanical Turks’: tools that automatically aggregate user-generated information to determine trustworthiness.[4] Reputation management is another aspect and use of social media.

Yellow – Make new friends is an app that is often called the “Tinder for teens” because users swipe right or left to accept or reject the profiles of other users. If two people swipe right on each other, they can chat and hook up via Snapchat or Instagram.

The use of social bots and chatbots has created an analytical crisis in the marketing industry.[40] Companies use social and chat bots to automate their social marketing that appears to consumers and other companies to be real interaction. The ability for bots to mimic human interaction makes it difficult for marketers and data analysts to differentiate between human interactions and automated bot interactions;[40] having implications for quality of data.[40] Companies continue to use bots to automate their social media interactions although the same bots are negatively affecting their marketing data causing a “digital cannibalism” in social media marketing. Additionally, bots violate the terms of use on many social mediums such as Instagram. This can result in profiles being taken down and banned.[41]
