The Inspector General of Police has appointed Nalaka Silva as Deputy Inspector General of Police, Puttalam. Nalaka Silva was sent on compulsory leave on September 19 2018,
based on a statement made by an individual named Namal Kumara that Nalaka Silva conspired to kill the then
President Maithripala Sirisena and Gotabaya Rajapaksa in that year.Then on October 17 of the same year, he was suspended. Within the background that there has been no possibility to prove any of the allegations levelled against Nalaka Silva up to now, steps have been taken last week to reinstate him in the police service.
Accordingly, the Inspector General of Police has issued an order appointing Nalaka Silva as Puttalam Deputy Inspector General of Police. He joined the police service as an Assistant Superintendent on March 3, 1999. Priyantha Weerasuriya, Sanjeewa Dharmaratne, Ranmal Kodithuwakku, Rajitha Sri Daminda and Sajeeva Medawatta, who joined the police service together with him as Assistant Superintendents are now Senior Deputy Inspector Generals.
Silva lost his position as Senior DIG due to his suspension. According to police information, Nalaka Silva, who was reinstated after five years, will receive his promotion he was deprived of.
