Nailene calcium gel tip kit.

(Around £8)

I have had my nails done professionally before and loved it, but it became too expensive for me to do regularly.  I was curious when I saw this kit - quite a long time ago now - and thought I'd give it a try as a possible alternative. The first thing I noticed was the smell. Oh dear .. It's so strong!  If you are familiar with salon falsies then you will know there is a strong odour, but definitely nothing compared to this.  The instructions are fairly straight forward and easy to follow.  The picture on the box was what I was aiming for - shiny, even nails.  I started layering on the gel overlay and gel activator, and what I was left with was a extremely noticeable ridge between the tips and my real nails.  The next step would be the buffing away to reduce this ridge.  It took a lengthy amount of time to get them anywhere near smooth, and it felt like they were becoming loose in the process.  I even tried applying a coloured polish to give an extra layer and to help hide the bump.  They looked great from afar, but not up close.Probably not a cheaper alternative to salon nails, as there are not enough tips included to do this a fair few times.  I loved trying on glue on false nails when I was younger but gave up when they didn't last long because of the weakness of the glue.  As I am not willing to pay for salon nails on a regular basis any more I will have to keep on with the nail strengthener and shaping to keep my nails long.  Now they look just as good with a gorgeous coloured polish on them.  Just wish I had that steady hand for the cute designs. ^^
