The thought of trying out the new tapas and bar at Juhu, Myx, definitely had me excited. Loved the tagline-Its A Small World. It was catchy and it is with the thought of trying out new molecular gastronomic adventures which justified the tagline that I made my way to Myx.
The decor and ambience was created for a comfortable and casual dining experience with a community table running down the center of the Myx Dining Room. The large mural on the wall of the woman looking through her binoculars caught my attention. Loved the compass on one end of the dining space, and the multi-coloured and multi-textured tiles on the ceiling added a charming vibrance to the place.
Back to food, and the man behind the menu, Chef Sameer Bhalekar, explained that Myx serves small portions in tapas style with a menu that was largely free from courses, so that one can try a larger variety of dishes. The interesting aspect of the menu is that it is divided into Almost Raw, Steamed, Baked, Crisp, Seared, Grilled and Tossed sections – each with a selection of vegetarian and non-vegetarian choices. The Drinks Menu is extensive with an array of conventional spirits and cocktails and mocktails.
The first to arrive was the Angry Bird Wings (INR 450) from the Seared section of the menu which was confit chicken wings with a sweet ginger sauce – completely delicious, full of flavour! The deboned chicken wings has been converted into little square cakes and presented beautifully. This was followed by the Baby Lamb Empanadas (INR 450) which came a slightly spicy mint foam – full marks for this one, it was brilliant! The Black Truffle Scallop (INR 600) was the notes of truffle in abundance – would have been even better had it been with a bit of a texture.
The food journey continued with the Chicken Yaki Tori which came on its own grill right at the table – pretty good it was too. The Black Chicken Burger (INR 450) looked very interesting with its little squid-ink laden buns and a seared chicken patty presenented with a little glass of potato crisps. I loved the Chicken In Pokchoy (INR 450) which was very nicely done chicken mousse with a pokchoy skin – very juicy and completely filled the palate with a nice gingery taste. The Mushroom Mantou (INR 400) – steamed bun with a tasty mushroom filling and Broccoli Cake (INR 375) with its flavoursome roasted garlic taste are good vegetarian options. For me, the star of all that was tasted that evening was the Carrot Chicken (INR 400). If there is just one dish that I could try, this would be it! It comes in a beautiful planter...yes, a proper planter, surrounded with white flowers, standing gloriously wiuth its carrot ‘skin’ and braised chicken center and tastes just a fabulous as it looks – and one has a happy mouthful of flavoursome chicken.
The Seafood Paella (INR 550), which came looking rather tempting and was made out of healthy brown rice didn’t appeal much to me, the Edamame Truffle Risotto (INR 550) more than made up for it.
Then was time for desserts and the Berry Lollys (INR 500) arrived at the table. It was quite a stir as bottles of liqeur and fruit foam was set out and the lollys were created and frozen right in front of us. We ended the evening on a delicious note with a beautifully created Toblerone Chocolate Oak (INR 300), a three layered chocolate-ganache dessert-simply perfect!
With its extensive bar menu, relaxed contemporary ambience, tapas style food keeping the Indian palate in mind, all at a rather reasonable price, Myx has a good mix of everything to get a houseful.
Would I visit again? Of course – goes without saying!
