My Weekend Project: Updating My Home Accessories

By Simone Design Blog @HomeSpire

With the coming of fall and the installation of new doors in my house, I’ve been inspired to do a decorative makeover on many of my rooms, including my living room (below). Want to see what I’ve done so far?

The first thing I did was get a bigger vase to replant my kitchen terrariums. The plants were growing leaps and bounds, so they needed a bigger home. I got my terrarium supplies out: decorative pebbles, Spanish moss and charcoal pieces.

The entryway vignette already had some pretty yellow vases. To add a little more interest, I just added an faux red cabbage head on top of each vase. The color of the cabbage heads goes wonderfully with the vases and the painting and adds some fall ambience to the room.

For my dining room console table I placed some red cabbage heads next to the terrarium plants. I also added some gold candlesticks and a bowl from the Threshold line at Target.

For the living room console table vignette, I added two tall single stem vases. Inside each of them I placed an faux long stemmed flower from our local nursery. The vases blend in perfectly with the landscape painting and they’re not so huge or colorful that they dominate the other items.

I have two floor vases that I redecorated with new faux flowers (also from my local nursery) for the fall/winter seasons. Inside the vases I used a filling material called angel vine; it gives an extra layer of texture and color to the arrangements. The two vases are on opposite sides of the living room and so I like to decorate them differently.

Finally, I placed some tulips on my dining-room table. I absolutely love tulips; they’re delicate and have a myriad of colors. Whenever I can find them, I buy them. This time I got orange tulips and placed them in a green decorative glass bowl. The arrangement adds a lovely pop of color to the room.

As for the newly installed doors that partly inspired these changes, my husband Christopher is still busy painting them. This past weekend he also worked on our front garden, pruning shrubs and discarding dying summer annuals. He then bought some spring bulbs and pansies to plant in the newly vacated flower beds.

We did an awful lot of home projects this weekend! It’s such a great feeling to walk around the main level of our home and see the new decor taking shape. I hope you enjoyed tour of my newly decorated home.
