I know it’s not a life or death situation for me if I forgot to apply lotion on a given day, but slowly I’m trying to incorporate it in my daily beauty / skin care routine. With the usually hot Manila weather here it can get really icky and sticky when lathering lotion, so one trick to force me to apply during the day is the scent! Read on to see my top 5 lotions and a few facts on why lotions are essential!
More about each of these lotions below. I first want to discuss the benefits of lotions. Using body lotion can moisturize your skin, and make it soft and supple. If it has SPF, it can protect and prevent you from sun damage. There are also whitening lotions which typical tanned-skin Filipinos are going crazy for and which beauty companies are certainly milking from! Some lotions also have anti-aging ingredients on them to prevent wrinkles and fine lines caused by dry skin that loses elasticity. Lotions can also be an alternative to perfume or cologne if you chose scented ones. Now it’s entirely up to you which among these benefits you would like to have in your lotion. As for me, it has to be moisturizing and has a lovely scent!
Here goes my current top picks:
From L-R: Strawberries & Champagne (Wild Strawberries & Champagne) Hydrating Body Lotion, Love Spell (Cherry Blossom & Peach) Ultra-Moisturizing Hand and Body Cream, and Lost in Fantasy (Brazillian Orchid & Kiwi) Hydrating Body Lotion
The above lotions from Victoria’s Secret are honestly just impulse buys when I was in Singapore’s Changi Airport last year (read the rest of my SG shopping haul here). Knowing VS would be cheaper there, I grabbed these three right away! I have a thing with strawberry-scented anything so the Strawberries & Champagne one instantly became my fave among the bunch. The Lost In Fantasy is my go-to lotion in the office where it’s insanely cold thus I need to reapply lotion just to avoid my skin from drying. For night time, I usually apply the Lost in Fantasy lotion cos it says “ultra-moisturizing” on the label and I figured it would work best during the night.
This Strawberry Body Butter came with The Body Shop gift set that Araneta / Gateway generously gave me for participating in the Dress Me Up event a few months ago. Now some of you might wonder what’s the main difference between body lotion and body butter. Well in terms of thickness the body butter is definitely thicker in consistency than lotion. It is also extremely rich and moisturizing. This particular body butter from The Body Shop is very sticky so think twice before applying this when going outdoors. I like to apply this before going to sleep.
Lastly, this Vanilla & Co. Drops of Dew (Face and Body Moisturizer) recently became my fave cos of the vanilla scent. I’m sure most of you would agree with me that vanilla is a good choice for lotions! Vanilla is an aromatic spice that benefits the nervous system and therefore is calming to our senses. I used to have vanilla scented lotions from Bath & Body Works, but for now this would do!
How about you? Do you also apply lotions? What are your top faves? I’d love to hear from you so tweet away or post on my Facebook page!
