My Top 5 Favorite Kitchen Tools (and they're all under $20!)

A round-up of my top 5 favorite kitchen gadgets, each of which costs less than $16 USD.  Perfect stocking stuffers!

Black Friday is right around the corner, and a lot of people are starting to think about holiday gifts.  I thought it would be fun to share with you my all-time favorite kitchen tools.

These are the things that I use almost every day.  In fact some of them never get put away because they are always in use!

And the best part: not one of these items costs over $16 USD.  They would be perfect stocking stuffer gifts!

1. OXO Good Grips Cookie Scoop

oxo cookie scoop

When I bought this scoop, I thought it would be great for cookies, and cookies alone.  How wrong I was!  I use it all the time to make meatballs, scoop ice cream…and (of course) cookies, too.  It’s great for making sure you have evenly shaped scoops so that your food cooks evenly!  I have #40 which scoops exactly 1.5 tablespoons.

Recipes that use this product:

Feta-Stuffed Greek Meatballs

S’mores Sundae Cookie Cups

Key Lime & White Chocolate Coconut Macaroons

2. OXO Good Grips Salad Dressing Shaker

I have been so happy with this salad dressing shaker!  I’ve owned many in the past that warped in the dishwasher and no longer sealed properly, but that hasn’t been an issue with this salad dressing shaker.  Plus the pour spout makes it so easy to pour evenly over the salad.

Recipes that use this product:

Cauliflower Cashew Lunch Bowls

Honey-Lime Chicken and Soba Noodle Salad

Spinach Salad with Apples, Bacon and Spicy Maple Walnuts

3. Microplane Stainless Steel Zester

I still laugh about what what I said to my Mom when she bought this for me: “Mom, what am I going to zest?  I don’t zest!”  So…those were pre-blogging days when I wasn’t quite as enthusiastic about cooking.  These days I love using my zester, I use it for lemon and lime zest, which is a great way to add some flavor to a dish.  I also use it for grating fresh nutmeg!

Recipes that use this product:

Lemon Meringue Pie Bites

Rhubarb Coffee Cake with Nutmeg-Pecan Streusel

Kale, Barley and Feta Salad with a Honey-Lemon Vinaigrette

4. OXO Good Grips Garlic Press

oxo-garlic press

I’m almost ashamed to admit that before I bought this garlic press, I avoided mincing garlic altogether.  My garlic press was a hand-me-down from my Mom, and it was clearly purchased some time in the 1970’s.  It was just such a pain to clean.  This OXO Good Grips Garlic Press

is such a breeze to clean, you invert it on itself and the little plastic bristles push the garlic out of the holes.  So much easier!

Recipes that use this product:

Herbed Orzo Pasta Salad with Tomatoes and Feta

Balsamic Tarragon Chicken Skillet

Greek Turkey Burgers with Whipped Feta

5. Gelindo Lemon & Lime Squeezer

Now in all honesty, this is not the exact model I own, my parents gave me a hand-made one from Mexico.  But I am seriously eyeing this one because it can squeeze both lemons and limes, and has great reviews on Amazon!  I don’t know how I squeezed limes before my parents gave me my lime squeezer, in fact I’m quite sure I used bottled lime juice.  But if you want fresh (which is 1000 times more flavorful), you will love this type of juicer!

Recipes that use a lime squeezer:

Slow Cooker Honey-Lime Chicken

Thai Curry Sweet Potato & Lentil Soup

Slow Cooker Smoky Sweet Potato Chickpea Chili with Lime
