My Office Chair...from DRAB to FAB! with Waverly Fabric #WaverizeIt!

By Midwesterngirl @MidwesternGirl5
It's been quite a while since I've posted a sewing project here on my blog...and frankly, I've missed it. So today I'm sooo excited to share my latest sewing project with you!
But, before I do that, did you know...
SEPTEMBER is NATIONAL SEWING MONTH!
AND, Waverly is celebrating their 90th anniversary!
So, to celebrate these two fantastic things, JoAnn & Waverly are teaming up to bring you a fantastic contest!

A couple more details on that in a bit...but first I want to share my office chair transformation with you!
Here's what my chair looked like BEFORE...

Typical office chair, right? Utilitarian...functional...but booooring. Plus, because I use it for my chair in my craft space, it has random paint stains everywhere...(ooops).

Not too bad, but definitely not pretty...
BUT, here's my plain old office chair AFTER I Waverize'd It!

Ta da!!!!
JoAnn Fabric & Craft Stores sent me 2 yards of this gorgeous Waverly fabric, Groovy Grille in Spa. I love love love the blue and green in this print...and it goes perfectly with my craft room! How did they know?
Here are a few more photos...

I decided to really challenge myself with this project...I didn't use any patterns and I didn't measure a single thing. Yep! I did it all on the fly...and it was so fun!
I just lay my fabric across the chair and started pinning it...it was sort of liberating actually...

To work around the chair arms, I cut a notch in the fabric and serged around the cut so that it wouldn't ravel. Then I added ties on either side of the notch so that I could attach the cover to the seat.

I cut a notch out in the back, too...
And I think the ruffle adds just the right bit of femininity...(plus it covers up the rough edges I created by not not measuring and just cutting...smile).
Then I took the chair apart and spray-painted the arms and base...just to brighten them up a bit...

So much better right???
What an amazing difference just a couple of yards of gorgeous fabric and a sewing machine can make!
