Yes, I know what you're thinking... that's a film and surely that's not an actual real life thing you can do! Well, you're right - and it is! The Great North Museum: Hancock is the first in the North East to hold an event like this and let me tell you, it was a lot of fun.
If you're an avid museum goer you might've already been to visit Hancock, but on an evening (and with a DJ) it's a completely different atmosphere. A pop up bar serving everything from prosecco to beer and some classic cocktails, live music and the opportunity to see the exhibitions after dark! We had exclusive access to the new Bones: Skeleton Secrets of the Animal World and were able the explore the full museum. We were told there were animals upstairs we could see and I mistakenly thought of bunnies and y'know cute, fluffy things. Instead we were faced with lizards, giant snails, a terrifying tarantula and some cockroaches. I took photos of Sarah holding the snake from as far away as possible, however I did come round to holding a crested gecko..until it jumped towards my face. I think I'll stick to dogs and cats instead! I did however, really enjoy visiting the Planetarium and if you're any kind of space fan, it's an absolute must on your visit.Competing for the best sleeping spot; either underneath the T-Rex or beside the mummy, we ran laps around the museum looking for iconic exhibits. Unfortunately we weren't the winners, but I still managed to get a prime spot under the T-Rex and set up camp for the night; ready to settle down after watching the Cornshed Sisters and indulging in some wine. Lights out and it was time to sleep...6:30am I was awoken to an announcement that breakfast would be served at 7am. Feeling surprisingly well rested (who knew sleeping on a hard floor could be so good for your back!) it was time for a cuppa and a bacon sandwich before rolling up my sleeping bag and heading out the doors.
Were there any movements and did the animals roam the museum after dark? I couldn't possibly tell you... Here's hoping Hancock host another sleepover so you can see for yourself!
