My Nana Was So Smart! Trying This Tonight!

Posted on the 21 November 2024 by Vegandesserts

We all know that lampshades are magnets for dust and dirt. Over time, they can look dull and grimy, making your room feel less fresh and inviting. Many people dread cleaning lampshades because they seem delicate, and scrubbing them clean sounds like a tedious task.
But what if I told you there’s a super simple trick to clean those dusty lampshades in just two minutes with almost zero effort? It’s a trick my nana taught me, and I’ve been using it ever since. Here’s how it works.

Why Lampshades Get So Dusty
Before we dive into the trick, it’s helpful to understand why lampshades get so dusty in the first place. Lampshades, especially fabric ones, have a texture that easily traps dust. As they’re often placed in areas with lots of airflow, like living rooms or bedrooms, they collect airborne dust particles quickly. Dust can dull the color of the lampshade and even cause unpleasant odors over time. Regular cleaning helps maintain the brightness and look of your lampshade, and my nana’s method makes it a breeze.
The 2-Minute, Zero-Effort Lampshade Cleaning Trick
What You’ll Need:
A lint roller (the kind with sticky, disposable sheets)
A vacuum cleaner with a soft brush attachment (optional, for heavier dust build-up)
That’s it! No fancy cleaning solutions or special tools are required.
Step-by-Step Instructions:
Preparation: Make sure your lampshade is cool to the touch. You don’t want to work with a warm lampshade that’s just been turned off because the glue or materials might be more delicate when warm.
Start Rolling: Take your lint roller and start at the top of the lampshade. Roll it down gently in a straight line, pressing lightly. The sticky surface of the lint roller will pick up dust, pet hair, and other particles clinging to the fabric.
Cover All Areas: Continue rolling the lint roller across all surfaces of the lampshade. Be thorough but gentle to avoid damaging delicate fabrics. Rotate the lampshade as you go to ensure you cover every side.
Peel and Repeat: If the lint roller sheet becomes covered with dust and loses its stickiness, peel it off to reveal a fresh layer, and continue rolling until the entire lampshade is clean.
