When I lead my open top bus sightseeing tours for the Premium Tours company, I am up with the lark. The tours leave from Victoria Station at 7.30a.m.
The early starts provide a good opportunity to indulge my hobby of photographing London. At this time of day I tend to use the iPhone rather than the DSLR. Here's The Archer, the statue by Eric Aumonnier at my "home" station East Finchley…
The Archer statue (above) is by Eric Aumonier. Heading southward, East Finchley station is the last tunnel in the open air before the tube trains plunge into darkness. The Archer statue is the subject of one my very favorite London myths – the myth being that the Archer has no arrow because it lies at the end of the Northern Line tunnel at Morden (also in statue form) some 17 miles 528 yards away. Sadly, only a myth - there never was an arrow statue at Morden.
The tunnel was once the world's longest.
And I love grabbing shots of "empty" London at that time of day…
My other habit on my early mornings is calling in at Pret upstairs in the shopping mall at Victoria Station. The staff are a lovely bunch, genuinely very friendly.
