Winter is a-comin' in, and only the hardiest of souls join my London Walks tours at this time of year. Having said that, it's been a beautiful week weatherwise, and I've met (as usual) a lot of lovely people.
I was out and about in South Kensington and snapped this scene outside the Natural History Museum…
…Now I like Christmas as much as the next man – and sometimes the next man is the reborn Ebeneezer Scrooge in the final stave of A Christmas Carol (yup, BIG Christmas fan, me), but even I think it's still a tad too early for the trees.
I put my theory - that the U.K should adopt Thanksgiving in an attempt to keep Christmas back to at least the last week in November – to a lovely couple from San Francisco on my London Music Tour on Friday.
"Doesn't work," they chorused. "It just becomes one mushed-up mess of celebrations from Halloween to Christmas."
Bah.
And humbug.
I was down South Kensington way visiting the Royal Albert Hall for a guided tour - which was absolutely terrific. (I'll blog about it another day.)
MUST mention the fruit scones in the Royal Albert Hall Cafe…
… the size of tennis balls, they were, and absolutely delicious. (I feel a Great Scones Of London series coming on.)
On the topic of baking, I finally got the Christmas Cake done - on Monday night. We were late this year but the whole event took a new turn - I'm now the assistant baker and my daughter is in charge. Here we are…
… and you can catch up with the story of My London Christmas Cake HERE.
While out and about this week it seems that I can hardly take two steps without bringing the camera up to catch yet ANOTHER riot of autumn color (tomorrow's Monday Photoblog will be full of 'em). This morning in Kensington Gardens I snapped these two on the phone - with no filter. To the south, above the Albert Memorial we had winter skies…
… and on the other hand, to the north of the same spot, well…
… if not for the golden trees it could be high summer.
Friday night it was off to the Hen & Chickens Theatre in Islington for The Fire Starters, a dynamite production of Max Frish's 1958 play The Fire Raisers…
Absurd, menacing with a big political punch, it's a terrific night of theater. Book HERE.
Winter also brings Office Parties… I had a fantastic time with Julie Tucker and her teammates on Wednesday night leading a Ghosts of the Old City tour…
If you're planning your office Christmas Party or outing, and would like to book a walking tour as part of the evening, get in touch using the links below.
I've got a big week ahead catching up on my studies for the Westminster Guiding Course - so I'll be sharing a few blog posts from the archive. These past few days I've had some company at the desk. Here's Natasha, nestling among the books…
I am hoping to get out and about for one of my big London rambles, too. Will be taking the camera and will report back.
Have a great week!
Keep In Touch…
