Released in theaters on Wednesday October 7, My Grandfather and I is worn by the legendary Robert De Niro. But behind this family comedy hides 2 little nods to monuments of the 7th art from New Hollywood.

In My Grandfather and Me, Robert De Niro plays Ed, a mischievous grandpa at war with his 10-year-old grandson, Peter. At the request of his parents, the young boy must vacate his room for his grandfather and reluctantly settle in the attic. With the help of his friends, he will do everything to get his room back and will not hesitate to use great means. But his grandfather is far from giving in and counterattack ... No matter what!

This family comedy marks the reunion between Robert De Niro and Christopher Walken (who plays his friend Jerry in the film)! Indeed, the two actors played Russian roulette in the mythical Voyage to the end of hell, released in 1978. 42 years after Vietnam, they will again wage a merciless war ... but against the grandson by Robert De Niro! This iconic New Hollywood feature film, directed by Michael Cimino, won Christopher Walken the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor.

Don't miss the Hip-hop battle between De Niro and Christopher Walken!

My grandfather and I give New Hollywood a second nod through a sequence involving Robert De Niro. His character, Ed, is therefore in full conflict with his grandson. The latter compete in ingenuity to crack the other, imagining improbable pranks. One night, Peter borrows a snake from a classmate, and places it in his grandpa's bed. When Ed feels something crawl against his back, he wakes up, lifts the blanket, and howls in fright at the sight of this huge reptile.

WE CAN SEE A PREVIEW OF THE SCENE AT THE VERY END OF THIS TRAILER

This is a reference to a mythical scene from The Godfather, directed by Francis Ford Coppola in 1972. During this sequence, Jack Woltz, in conflict with Don Corleone, receives as a warning a severed horse's head in his bed. Frightened and disoriented, he then launched a most frightening cry. Note that like Christopher Walken, Robert De Niro won an Oscar for best supporting role for The Godfather 2.
