My Favourite Photos of Romania to Inspire Your Next Adventure

Posted on the 25 November 2024 by Just Go Exploring @JustGoExploring

Romania is one of Europe’s most underrated gems. From its fairytale castles and medieval towns to the untouched wilderness of the Carpathian Mountains, this country is full of surprises.

Transylvania is the stuff of legends. Exploring its ancient fortified churches and towns like Sighișoara and Brașov feels like stepping into a storybook.

And, of course, there’s Bran Castle – often linked to the Dracula myth – perched dramatically on a hilltop.

The Carpathians offer some of the best hiking in Europe, with trails winding through lush forests, alpine meadows, and between dramatic peaks.

In rural villages, horse-drawn carts still rumble down dirt roads, haystacks dot the rolling countryside, and there’s little sign of the modern world. It’s as though time has stood still for centuries.

Bucharest, Romania’s capital, has its own unique energy. It’s an intriguing mix of grand Belle Époque architecture, Communist-era relics, and a burgeoning creative scene.

The Danube Delta is a haven for wildlife and offers a peaceful escape into nature, while the beaches of the Black Sea come alive with bohemian, hedonistic parties all summer long.

Romania feels both mysterious and welcoming. Ancient traditions remain strong, the landscapes are wild and untouched, and the people are genuinely warm and friendly.

Here, adventure is never far away. And most places remain refreshingly free from the crowds that overwhelm more popular European destinations.

If Romania isn’t already on your bucket list, I hope these photos help change that.
