My Favourite #London Street: Cheyne Walk #Chelsea

By Lwblog @londonwalks

We've been asking our London Walks guides: What's your favourite London Street of all?

My Favourite #London Street: Cheyne Walk #Chelsea

My favourite street is Cheyne Walk - with its early Georgian architecture - which has been home to such diverse personalities as Rolling Stone Keith Richards, and Ralph Vaughan Williams, those most 'English' of composers. Over 400 years ago, it was home to the young Queen Elizabeth I, and Sir Thomas More, Chancellor to Henry Vlll. Great 19th Century writers, such as Thomas Carlisle and George Eliot. The 18th/19th Century engineers the great Brunels, Mark and Isambard, footballer George Best, and actress and cake-designer, Jane Asher. And the current mega-wealthy like Roman Abramovich and Mick Jagger. And Chelsea's oldest building, with its wealth of ancient tombs, and celebrity parishioners, Chelsea Old Church.

If you can afford the £7.5ml price tag for a freehold house with interior decoration by the acclaimed Belgravia-based designer, Nicky Haslam, which overlooks the iconic fairytale Albert Bridge, and the pier which has a regular commuter boat to the City, grab it while you can. See all this and more, on the Chelsea Walk every Wednesday!

Stephanie, a splendidly droll ex-Elephant Keeper, was in Shakespeare in Love! She's a professionally qualified Shakespeare's Globe Theatre, City of London, and Blue Badge Guide.

Get all the particulars for her Chelsea Walk at 1:45p.m on Wednesdays (meet at Sloane Square station) HERE.

A London Walk costs £10 - £8 concession. To join a London Walk, simply meet your guide at the designated tube station at the appointed time. Details of all London Walks can be found at www.walks.com
