My Exploding Head

My Exploding Head

I told my wife my head exploded. She was very concerned. I clarified that I was speaking metaphorically, and my head was actually intact. She is, after all, the literary metaphor queen.

What prompted this was a TV snippet of a Senate hearing. Republicans had summoned Jack Smith (special prosecutor in Trump’s January 6 and classified documents cases) for yet another round of battering. They’ve done this before. Missouri Sen. Eric Schmitt called Smith a “total dirtbag;” Josh Hawley, from the same great state, insisted it’s Smith who should be prosecuted.

As if Trump had been a wholly innocent person, unjustly investigated and prosecuted by Smith as a political vendetta. As if it’s not Trump himself who’s actually pursued political vendettas that way — like trying to make Comey’s seashell photo a major crime.

Schmitt tried to “gotcha” Smith for perjury for mentioning he’d attended a certain basketball game. Turned out Schmitt confused team names — Hawks versus Hawkeyes. Thus gotcha’d himself.

An Albany Times-Union editorial ended saying (about Trump), “every accusation is a confession.” Psychologists call this “projection” — projecting your own failings onto others. Uncannily constant for Trump and Republicans. Like Trump’s “fake news” accusations against journalists whose coverage irks him. While the real purveyor of fake news is his own mouth, spewing a torrential gusher of lies.

And Eric Schmitt calls Jack Smith, an upstanding exemplar of probity, a “total dirtbag.”

Every accusation a confession.

Too many Americans can’t see it.

My head explodes.
