As Mitchell, Jesse Tyler Ferguson brings such a fun energy to "Modern Family" that it's a wonder that he hasn't won an Emmy yet. Well this year, I decided to right that wrong in my personal awards at least. In choosing him as my winner this year, I kept coming back to "The Cold", which exemplifies what I love about the character/performance. It's one of those episodes where he's put in awkward situations with little children, inevitably being mean to them. For a show as safe and formulaic as this one, I always get a kick out of this slyly subversive mean streak, which seems attributed more to the actor than the character himself. It's enough to make you wish "Modern Family" was on cable instead.

It's no secret that Aidy Bryant doesn’t get as much spotlight as fellow cast member Kate McKinnon, the breakout star of SNL's current crop of actors. However, Bryant has proven herself time and time again, putting in hilarious work when she gets material worthy of her talent. it. She’s one of the most naturally funny actors in the cast and when she’s in top form, no one else makes me laugh harder. Check out the bawdy hilarity of her "Big Fat Ass!" parody in the Chris Pratt episode and you'll see what I mean. She's so fearless. Most would consider McKinnon the MVP of the SNL ladies, but in my opinion, Bryant is just as great.
