The first month of this year’s summer was quite an eventful one for the global fashion community. After London Collections: Men and Milan Fashion Week, it was time for the world’s official capital of fashion to show off the brand new trends from an array of amazing designers who presented their spring-summer 2015 collections during Paris Fashion Week.
From Dior Homme to Carven and Paul Smith, many fantastic household names showcased their collections on the runways of the French capital, establishing the new trends for the summer of 2015!
In the mix of head-turning shapes, colors and cuts, we were able to spot a few trends that are probably going to take off quite soon and become the look of the 2015 summer. We even encourage you to start wearing some now! One of these was represented by the truly eye catching coats, many designers presenting men’s coats in vibrant colors and very saturated shades. We know that men don’t easily wear coats or jackets that are very colorful, but maybe the time has come for that to change. Lanvin, Dior and Berluti were just some of the fashion houses that presented such colorful pieces. A colorful coat can always be worn with other neutral pieces, especially with neutral pants, since they are the other most visible piece when you are wearing a coat.
Apparently jeans are making a comeback (as if they were ever out of style), as a lot of designers featured denim pieces in their collections. This trend was also a big one during Milan Fashion Week, as many designers showcased outfits that featured amazing pairs of jeans. Jeans are great neutral pieces and everyone should have a pair that makes them look good! We usually recommend that you get a dark-wash pair, as they are dressier and more versatile than light jeans. As a shopping tip, note that generally, one needs to try on around twenty pairs of jeans before finding the right one. Valentino, AMI Alexandre Mattiussi and Dior Homme were just some of the brands that featured denim in their collections.
A third trend we could see on the Parisian catwalks was wearing white sneakers with basically anything you can think of. It appears that white sneakers have become the go-to shoes: they work with anything; or at least this season. Brands such as JUUN.J, Louis Vuitton and Carven were just a few of those who paired white running shoes with anything from knitwear to formal attire.
Other trends that were very obvious at Paris Fashion Week were intricate prints, silky pants, which were featured by Haider Ackermann, Dries van Noten and Hermès. We really like the idea of a print pant and think that they should be worn more often. When it comes to prints, even though the prints presented at PFW were quite bold, if you plan on incorporating them into your wardrobe, you should know that you can opt for a lighter print or one that is more subtle. Prints can be always matched to other prints or to neutral colors, such as beige, black, white, khaki, tan, etc. Besides from printed pants, of course there were also a lot of tops that featured bold prints, which is always a good sartorial choice in our opinion.
Another big trend that marked this Fashion Week were jumpsuits. Jumpsuits are great pieces (in the form in which Thom Browne, Louis Vuitton or 3.1 Phillip Lim presented them), but they are not very versatile and adaptable. It takes a certain kind of event to wear a fancy jumpsuit to.
And because a picture is worth a thousand words, we’ve put together a gallery of our favorite looks from the French capital’s runways! Let’s take a look at the looks we found most appealing and at why we enjoyed them!
Paul Smith created a psychedelic collection, featuring pajama-style pants and very bold colors and prints.Walter Van Beirendonck was inspired by nature and transformed his men into veritable toucans, introducing strong prints with an Eastern flair.Sacai Man’s Chitose Abe presented a collection that was very youthful due to its sporty, yet slim tailoring. For their spring-summer 2015 collection, Saint Laurent presented creations inspired by the 1970s Psych Rock Scene, proposing relaxed silhouettes and cigarette pants.Valentino’s collection was a breath of fresh air, as their designers were inspired by outsiders, free thinkers and their environment. Agnes B’s vision for the spring-summer 2015 season was one where men wear relaxed, Parisian chic, eclectic clothes with a nonchalant and elegant attitude.AMI Alexandre Mattiussi presented a collection geared towards young men who have an appeal for adventure and action.Beruti’s collection by Alessandro Sartori was a winning combination of rich fabrics and deep, luxurious colors.Belgian designer Raf Simons offered a very sharp collection, with edgy shapes and strong colors as its marks.Carven’s collection was based on simple designs and had as its main inspiration the working class.Cerruti worked with layered fabrics, and strong colors and the result was an interesting take on classic pieces. For his collection, Christophe Lemaire used a minimal, but very refined aesthetic. The monochromatic ensembles displayed a slight eastern influence and a dash of refinement. Comme des Garçons Shirt worked with bright colors and geometric prints. This striped jacket was one of the highlights of the collection.Danish designer’s Henrik Vibskov collection consisted of his signature oversized tops and drop crotch trousers. We liked the color combinations: some highly-saturated pieces were mixed with black neutrals, resulting in balanced outfits. The Dries van Noten collection was one of the weird collections of the week. His pieces were quite strange at first, but after you took a good at them, you started to realize their qualities: the collection inspired by dancers revolved around fluidity, relaxation and lightness.Ricardo Tisci’s collection for Givenchy consisted of only black and white clothes and was crafted with a military undertone. Draped silhouettes, intricate patterns and tight pants, all made from luxe fabrics, were the staples of the Haider Ackermann collection.Hermès continued to offer very elegant and refined pieces, Dior Homme proposed a serious collection, with a conservative vibe and classic essentials. The sporty Kolor collection, composed of shorts, sweatshirts and other sportswear was all about stripes, both horizontal and vertical in very bright colors. Korean fashion house JUUN.J combined western and eastern styles for their collection. Lanvin’s creations were part of a very versatile collection and directed to every man. The collection included accessories such as shoulder and messenger bags, paired with sandals, leather belts and trainers. The Kenzo collection was inspired by non-French men who enjoy the Parisian style. In the end, the result was an American-French travel experience with lots of chromatic references, such as the green representing the gift of the French to the Americans, the Statue of Liberty. The Junya Watanabe creations embraced a lot of denim or simply blue pieces for their spring-summer 2015 collection. The creations also embraced a lot of zig zags, plaid, stripes and dots. The spring-summer 2015 collection by French label Louis Vuitton was inspired by aviators as well as by the Indian visual culture and was composed of an interesting mix of colors, shapes and cuts. The KRISVANASSCHE collection was all about reinterpreting elegant sportswear. It was a risky endeavor, but the result was a pleasant surprise. The Miharayasuhiro spring-summer collection played with proportions and coordinated surprising ensembles.Fraquoh and Franchomme
