On Wednesday afternoon, a police constable of the Ministerial Security Division (MSD), who was deployed for the security of the players at the limited over cricket match between Sri Lanka and Afghanistan at Pallekelle Stadium in Kandy, was arrested with 80 mg of heroin.
The police constable was arrested in the parking lot in front of Kandy Central Market. The 24-year-old suspect, a resident of Ruwanwella, joined the police service on July 15 last year.
After completing the training, he started his duties attached to the Ministerial Security Division (MSD) on May 21,2022.
He has come to Kandy on special duty on November 21 for the Sri Lanka – Afghanistan cricket tournament. The suspect has told the police that he consumed drugs in the bathroom of the hotel where the players were staying.Kandy police are investigating the incident.
