Ok so technically, today wasn’t moving day. We moved this weekend though so I figured it was close enough – especially since we just got internet back in our lives and we still have plenty of boxes to sort through. So yes, needless to say, the past few days have been ridiculously busy! We decided to move a month ago to be closer to a lot of our friends who recently moved to the Bay Area. Plus we were kind of tired of our old location (more suburban, less urban) – and thought moving to the North/East Bay would be a lot more fun. Given that the only time either of us had moved in our lives was when we were in college, we had no idea how long all the packing, etc. would take for this move.
I was sort of bummed out because we spent a good portion of the long (July 4) weekend packing, so to cheer me up, the husband made me laugh by putting a stowaway in one of our boxes…
How cute is that? One of the coolest things about packing up our old place was that we found some old newspaper that we had used to line our cabinets dated “July 14, 2007″ – which was literally a week after we had gotten married. It was kind of crazy to think that the place we were leaving was the first home we had together after we were married, and that we sort of were moving to a new chapter in our lives. I felt like I had grown up a lot since the day I moved in, and felt a bit nostalgic about it all. Of course, the nostalgia was mixed with excitement because I was very ready to move to our new place which is bigger and newer than our old place, and in a better location. Win-win
Anyway, all the packing and planning we did was worth it because our move went really smoothly! That’s in part because of the awesome movers we hired. We went with One Big Man, One Big Truck Moving Company based on recommendations from our friends and amazing Yelp reviews - and we were not disappointed. The movers were super nice and cool – and unbelievably efficient! While they were packing us up, the husband and I ventured out to take a look at the truck that would take us to the next stage of our married life. The husband thought it was funny how small I looked next to the truck, so we decided to take a picture to commemorate the event.
I think I might have been a little too excited for moving day
We left our old place around 1pm, and were all set up in our new place by 5pm. Then the epic unpacking of boxes began… which lasted all weekend and is still in progress. Overall it was a very long but efficient weekend and it’s great to be settled into our new neighborhood so quickly. On Saturday night, the husband and I were starving and of course had no food in the house, so we ventured out and found a Whole Foods only 2 miles from our house!I think the husband is kind of worried that I’m going to double our grocery bill by shopping here all the time now that we have one near our house (before we didn’t). I won’t lie – it’s going to be hard not to overspend here. But I have to say, the Whole Foods Deli was a lifesaver on Saturday night. We hit up the soup & salad bar – and I ended up with a hearty lentil soup & some sesame crackers (that I ate with some cheese at home).
After dinner the husband and I were so exhausted, we totally crashed and slept for 12 hours. We woke up the next morning refreshed and excited to explore our neighborhood – and while we spent all of Sunday unpacking, we also had an amazing dinner only 10 min from our house that I’ll write about very soon. All in all, I’d say it was a great day and an excellent weekend. I’m totally in love with our new place and I’m so glad we moved. Hope all of you had a great weekend as well!
