Verdict: Funny Little Horror Comedy That Grabs You
Story: Grabbers starts when a fishing ship comes under attack over night before we meet the Garda Lisa (Bradley) coming to the small island to work with Garda Ciaran (Doyle). While showing Lisa around the island we hat something has been attacking and beaching the wildlife off the coasts and now it has started to come after the people.
The two Garda have to work with the town drunk Paddy (Roddy) and scientist Adam Smith (Tovey) to stop the alien invaders that transport themselves through any means of water source but discovery that they need to be drunk to defeat the creatures.
Grabbers is a film that you have to compare to Tremors because of the comparisons with the standard characters, yes I know these characters that are trapped by water rather than sand but it is the same environment for the creatures. It really is easy to watch with laughs throughout and a nice spin on the don’t drink while fighting against an enemy. Just sit back and enjoy but don’t expect perfection.
Actor Review
Richard Coyle: Garda Ciaran O’Shea is the islands drunk police officer that has to show the by the book newcomer Lisa around the island. He does feel like he should help anyone on the island. Richard is good in this role without being truly memorable.
Ruth Bradley: Garda Lisa Nolan is the by the book new officer coming to the island only to find herself in the middle of a much bigger problem the island is facing. Ruth comes off as the strongest character well but the character does seem to be forgotten by the end.
Russell Tovey: Dr Adam Smith is the scientist on the island that sees this as the discovery of a generation which could make a name for themselves and the island. Russell is quirky with is what you expect in these style of films.
Lalor Roddy: Paddy Barrett is the island drunk putting to shame when it comes to the amount of alcohol he can drink. Seeing how he always survives makes the rest of the island see what they need to do to survive. Lalor is fun as the town drunk.
Support Cast: Grabbers has a supporting cast that all work for the film.
Director Review: Jon Wright – Jon gives us a fun film that is easy to watch and laugh along with.
Comedy: Grabbers has good moments of comedy throughout.
Horror: Grabbers uses the horror to not let us see everything through the film until the final moments.
Sci-Fi: Grabbers has creatures from out of space how much more sci-fi do you want to get.
Settings: Grabbers uses the isolation setting for this film with everything happening on the island with no escape.
Special Effects: Grabbers has great effects making the creatures look real from the first moment to the last.
Suggestion: Grabbers is one for the horror comedy fans to try, they should be entertained. (Horror Comedy Fans Watch)
Best Part: The Grabbers look great.
Worst Part: Lisa ends up looking weak by the end of the film.
