Movie Review: The Dark Knight Rises (2012)

Our the thoughts and prayers go out to the families and victims of Aurora Colorado.  The Dark Knight Rises  The Dark Knight Rises is believed to be the last movie of the Batman trilogy, following Batman Begins (2005) and The Dark Knight (2008).   The primary conflict in this story is man versus man, this cinematic project having cost $250,000,000 (U.S.) to produce.  Christian Bale again reprises his role as Bruce Wayne, a reclusive billionaire who eventually must become the superhero known as Batman, once again, to save Gotham City from total destruction.   His main enemy here is Bain, an extremely large and physically powerful villain who leads a terrorist army.   This character manages to hold the entire civilian population of Gotham City hostage with a thermonuclear device (hydrogen bomb), which is hidden within any one of three shipping containers, these being constantly driven around while mounted on trucks.   Morgan Freeman reprises his role as Mr. Fox, a weapons specialist and armourer at the service of Bruce Wayne, while Gary Oldman again stars as Commissioner Gordon.   Having served in the British Army during the Korean War in real life, Michael Cain, who is back as Alfred the butler, could easily have been employed in a more physically active role in this film.   Nonetheless, he delivers an absolutely superb performance here, as do Morgan Freeman and Gary Oldman.   Anne Hathaway stars as Selina Kyle, a professional thief who often suits up as the super villain Catwoman.   Wearing a skin-tight , form-fitting outfit which is very similar to a full wetsuit, Hathaway is very ideal for this role as she is very athletic.   Her physical training regimen in preparation for this and other movies has included yoga, running, weight training, resistance training, bicycle riding, swimming, dance aerobics, and martial arts.   The climactic battle scene pits Batman, Catwoman, Commissioner Gordon, and thousands of Gotham City police officers against Bain and his terrorist army.
