For some reason, I felt like watching a Jean Claude Van Damme movie this morning. They’re probably all the same, but I’ve always been a sucker for Sudden Death. It’s Die Hard in a hockey rink. A team of terrorists led by Powers Boothe take over a hockey arena during the Stanley Cup and take the vice president hostage. Jean Claude Van Damme plays a guy who used to be a firefighter, but is now some kind of security guard, and it’s up to him to save the day. Oh, and he brought his kids with him. And one of them is in danger.
If you like your Jean Claude Van Damme movies, then you’ll like this. It is pretty straight-forward Van Damme, 90′s action. It’s got a little more plot than his previous films, and it’s a fun, mindless watch.
FINAL GRADE: B-
