Movie of the Day – Killer Klowns From Outer Space

Posted on the 07 September 2012 by Plotdevice39 @PlotDevices

You know what?  Why the hell not.  Klowns from outer space that also happen to maniacal killers is just not even stretch for the 80s.  I mean we have killer everything, even killer tomatoes!  So the fact that this movie exists and also happens to be one of my favorite b-movie horror flicks should not surprise any of my readers.  I will admit that I look fondly back on 80s cinema and think, “Why is there nothing like this anymore?”.  Seriously, how utterly batshit insane is this movie.  The trailer alone makes me remember the fond moments of staying up late night and watching USA Up All Night to catch crappy movies like this.  And by crappy, I do mean fucking astounding.

Movie of the Day – Killer Klowns From Outer Space

Mike (Grant Cramer) and his sweetheart, Debbie (Suzanne Snyder), are smooching on lover’s lane when they see what appears to be a meteorite crashing over the horizon. They loosen their liplock long enough to investigate and find a curious circus tent. There they discover malevolent clowns who stop their victims with popcorn-shooting guns and acid-drenched pies in order to feast on human blood. The unfortunates are then entombed into inescapable cotton-candy cocoons. Officer Dave Hanson (John Allen Nelson) is called to investigate with help from Officer Mooney (John Vernon). For those viewers who already think clowns are a little creepy to begin with, this one will push them over the edge. ~ Dan Pavlides, Rovi

Killer Klowns From Outer Space is just pure, campy fun.  Dabbling in some dark humor and wonderfully inventive gag deaths, Killer Klowns is just a fun movie from start to finish.  The acting is non-existent, but that isn’t really the point of enjoying this movie.  You are watching this movie to see these klowns from outer space come to Earth and kill people with gimmicky clowns gags and props.  That is what makes this movie fun to watch.  It’s all about the camp and goofiness of a movie that delivers what it sets out to do.

Movie of the Day – Killer Klowns From Outer Space

From popcorn freeze guns, acid pies, people eating puppet shadows and supercharged boxing gloves, this movie has all the wonderful gags that circus clowns use to entertain us and uses them to kill us.  That is the utter charm of this movie, the sheer madness that comes from creating new and inventive ways to dispatch the humans utilizing common clown tools.  It’s humorous to see what comes next in terms of the next death or pie throw or even klown confrontation.  It might seem more like a gag fest, but then again, you are watching a movie about Killer Klows, so you have to have a chuckle at that.

You got to love the concept of Killer Klowns coming from outer space, in a circus tent for a ship and killing/harvesting people through the use of cotton candy cocoons.  What would be groan worthy in terms of effects and gags, is actually really entertaining to watch and enjoyable as a pure b-movie experience.  I don’t think I can go on about this movie since there isn’t much to discuss other than watching Klowns murder towns people through comedic means.  It’s got some inventive deaths, funny premise and the execution is pure camp.  I don’t think you could hate this movie if you tried your hardest.  Personally, if you fear clowns, this will get you over that fear in a heartbeat when you realize these villains are just wacky aliens that kills in over the top fashions.
