Movie of the Day – Comic-Con Episode IV: A Fan’s Hope

Posted on the 07 April 2013 by Plotdevice39 @PlotDevices

In honor of our Kansas City Planet Comic-Con event happening this weekend, what a perfect movie to choose to kick off the event.  Comic-Con Episode IV is a loving documentary to the people that crowd convention halls across the country every year.  Be it San Diego, Wonder, Dragon, PAX or any convention that celebrates geek culture, there is something so wonderful about seeing a gather of like minded individuals.  Some come to the conventions to see their idols, try and get their art seen, discover new mediums or even just revel in the glow of geekdom.  This documentary is a wonderful collection of some of the biggest names of the convention circle, each celebrity talking about what it means for them to witness and be apart of the scene.  Other moments capture the journey of some fans who are venturing out to SDCC for the first time for different reason.  One to get his work seen by other artist, some for the collectibles, others for work, another for the chance to get her costuming skills discovered and others for are there for love.

It’s the perfect patchwork of geeks, nerds, or whatever you call yourself, coming together to talk about the con experience.  It’s a culture that brings us all together to share in our enjoyment of our little quirks and likes with other people out there.  There is something out there for everyone and surely, this documentary tries to bring it all together for you.   Fun and insightful, one of my favorite documentaries from last year and certainly a fun time to watch.
