It’s that time again, Movember is upon us and the hairier men folk among us are perhaps considering growing a moustache to raise money for men’s health charities. Visit the Movember homepage to find out more about the charities and how you can get involved.
If you’re considering joining the moustache mafia this year, then you might want to read on, as we break down a full-proof skincare and shave routine.
We won’t advise you to eat some strange food that’s supposed to improve hair growth or to rub plant food into your pores. As you can’t really make your hair grow any more than it does, you have to put effort into making sure you are clean shaven everywhere but your moustache, as this will emphasise your mo as much as possible. Stick to this four-step routine and you’ll have baby-soft skin to contrast against your manly moustache.

Before you can shave, you need to ensure that your skin is clean, so splash a bit of lukewarm water on your face and use a gentle facial cleanser, as soap will dry your face out too much. Rinse away the cleanser and dry it with a towel.
Step 2 – Exfoliate
Only do this step every few days, as its purpose is to remove dead skin cells that build up on your skin. If you do it every day, then you’ll end up rubbing your face raw. Get a special facial exfoliator product with fine grains. Do not use a body exfoliator, as it will be too rough.
Step 3 – Shave
Use steam to open the pores on your face, as this will allow you to get a deeper, smoother shave. Shaving during or after a shower is advised because it’s usually already pretty steamy. Use a shave gel/cream/oil/etc that works for you — there’s a range of these on the King of Shaves site, who are dedicated men’s grooming experts. However, ensure that it your gel or cream is applied thinly enough so that you can see exactly what you’re doing.
Make sure that your razor is sharp, as a blunt blade can cause irritation by pulling at hairs. Getting a close shave is important, but not damaging your skin is also important, so you should always shave with the direction of growth.
Step 4 – Moisturise your skin
Gently apply a light layer of facial moisturiser, as body moisturisers can be too heavy. Post-shave balms are also great as they are designed specifically for this job.
Good luck with your mo this Movember. We hope you grow a glorious soup strainer and make a lot of money for charity along the way.
